Peke-A-Poo (Pekingese & Poodle)
The Peke-A-Poo is a designer breed that originated in the United States in the early 1950's. Pekingeses were bred to miniature or toy poodles to create a small to medium dog with some of the hypoallergenic qualities of the poodle. The Peke-Poo has a cottony feeling coat that may be white, brown, black, silver or a parti-color mix of any of these colors. The coat is single layered like the poodle, with little dander and almost no shedding. Quite possibly this would be a good choice for people with some dog allergies. The coat will require weekly brushing and combing to look its best and avoid major tangles. The area around the eyes may require some daily cleaning to prevent staining . The Peke-A-Poo's character has been described as friendly, fun-loving, intelligent and protective toward his family. Peke-A-Poos respond well to reward based, positive training and will be good with children and other pets in the family . For the most part the Peke-A-Poo will get sufficient exercise running after toys in the house, but he will also appreciate the occasional walk outside . Peke-A-Poos adapt very well to condo or apartment living. Average size: about 11 inches tall and 10-20 pounds, depending on the size of the poodle used in breeding.
