It is thought that the Yorkshire Terrier results from cross breeding several different kinds of terriers and toy breeds in England. They are a fantastic bundle of assertiveness and will take over your household from the very first day. This little dog is ideally suited for apartment life and can be trained to use a cat litter pan lined with paper, should the owner prefer not to walk them outside. The Yorkie is a participator in every sense of the word, and they expect to be taken along wherever you go. They are among the most loveable and clever of dogs -- a busy body, good watchdog and ever affectionate companion. The Yorkie's coat may be either black and tan or blue and tan in color and will be very long and flowing when fully mature. Unless the owner elects to clip the coat to a shorter length, it will require frequent brushing and combing to prevent matting and tangling. Size: up to 9 inches and 7-8 pounds. Females are slightly smaller.
