Labrador Retriever
The Labrador Retriever comes to us from Newfoundland and England and is one of the most popular dogs in the United States. Many people feel that the Lab is the most even-tempered of all the dog breeds. He is sensible and adaptable and can be comfortable in either house or apartment setting as long as great care is taken to provide the regular daily exercise that this breed must have. Labs have been used in the field for hunting, as guide, service and rescue dogs and a general watchdogs. The Labrador's coat may be yellow, black or chocolate brown and is short and very dense to the feel. Unlike his close relative the Golden Retriever, the Lab does not have any feathering of the coat. The coat is easily maintained with daily brushing for short periods of time to keep it shiny and healthy. While not as openly demonstrative as the Golden Retriever, Labs do have a genuine love for their master, family and home. When full grown the Labrador is a large dog ~~ standing approximately 24 - 25 inches and weighing around 75 pounds. Typically female Labs are somewhat smaller than males.
