The Silky Terrier resulted from the breeding of the Australian Terrier and the Yorkshire Terrier. They are a lively little dog that will require moderate amounts of exercise. They are primarily a companion pet and excel in that role. Silkies are extremely bright and responsive to their owners and make a good watchdog, despite their small size. They live comfortably in either apartment or home. The Silky's coat when mature will be long and silky and requires a fair amount of attention to keep it looking optimal -- brushing and combing will be necessary, along with bathing as necessary. Size: Up to 10 inches. Weight: Up to 10 pounds. Female Silky Terriers tend to be somewhat smaller.
