Shetland Sheepdog
The Shetland Sheepdog comes from Scotland and the Shetland Islands, where they served as excellent herding dogs working with sheep, pigs and goats.. "Shelties", as they are known, are very fast, alert and easy to train. They make good watchdogs and may be somewhat reserved with strangers. The Sheltie is good with children and can be a suitable apartment dog, if given daily exercise to satisfy the working dog part of their heritage. Their coats do require some brushing and trimming to look their best. Shelties come in a number of colors: black, blue merle and sable with white or tan markings. Size: approximately 16 inches and 16 pounds when fully mature.
