Poodle
The Poodle probably originated in Germany, though he is often referred to as the French Poodle. It is thought that he was bred for water retrieving, which explains some of the manners of hair clipping used for this breed, where hair remains over the joints and feet to protect them from the cold water. In fact, the name "Poodle" probably comes from the German slang word "pudeln" meaning " to splash around in water". The Poodle is one of the most popular breeds of all times, primarily because of their high degree of intelligence. They are available in many colors. White, cream, chocolate, silver, black, apricot and red are just some of the colors Poodles may be. The Poodle does not shed, which makes it more hypo-allergenic than most breeds, meaning it may well suit people with some degree of allergy to dogs. However, that beautiful coat that so distinguishes the Poodle does require regular clipping and styling, (every 4-6 weeks) which many owners choose to leave to a professional groomer. The Poodle is assertive, responsive and loyal to its family and gets along well with children and other animals, both dogs and cats. They are good watch dogs. Poodles come in three sizes, toy, miniature and standard, and while vastly different in size, all Poodles make good apartment or home dogs. Toy poodles are naturally the most popular and range in size up to 10 inches and generally 8 pounds or less.
