Golden Retriever
Golden Retrievers originated in 19th century England where they were used to retrieve over water. They are excellent hunting dogs with soft mouths and high intelligence. Their need to retrieve is legendary, and they are never happier than when they are fetching and carrying. Goldens naturally love children and other animals, including cats & kittens. Their loyalty and intelligence are amazing. That intelligence has made them one of the dogs most preferred for service and rescue organizations. The Golden does require a lot of exercise, and while he can adapt to apartment living if his family is nearby and attentive, he should be walked for long periods each day if living in this setting. His coat may be any one of several shades of gold and requires frequent brushing to avoid shedding in the house. Golden Retrievers are a large dog when full grown, ranging up to 24 inches and 75 pounds generally speaking. Female are somewhat smaller normally.
