The origin of the Chihuahua is not exactly known, but they were known to be in Mexico even before the Aztecs, They were considered sacred by the Aztecs and a staus symbol to be owned only by the ruling class. The breed takes its name from the city and state in Mexico, though their origin may be in South America or even Asia, and they are found equally in other parts of Mexico. Most known as the smallest dog in the world, they will usually range in size up to 5 or 6 inches and up to 8 pounds. They may have a smooth(shorthaired) or longhaired coat and are considered the ultimate toy dog. The chihuahua requires little care since he is clean and does not require the exercise of daily walking. Chihuahuas with longhaired coats may required occasional brushing, but professional grooming is not necessary. Many people train their chihuahuas to use an inside litter box or papers, meaning that they never have to go outside. Obviously they are small eaters, though they can be somewhat picky about their diet. A great companion, this little dog is wonderful for adults who want to spoil and pamper him; they will probably not mind finding just the perfect foods that this little tyrant wants. Because of his tiny size, this is a dog that you can take anywhere with you, and he will be thrilled not to be left behind.
