Basset Hound
Basset Hounds originated in France and Belgium, where the breed was developed from Bloodhounds primarily. This explains the original purpose of the Basset's long ears ~~ to stir up stale scent particles into his highly receptive nose. Bassets are extremely adaptable, and get along well with all members of the family, children and adults alike. Generally they are good with other animals as well. More agile than they appear, they require a great deal of exercise, but they can adapt to apartment life as long as they are walked at a good pace several times daily. With regard to size, Bassets can range up to 45 pounds and 15 inches, although females tend to be somewhat smaller. This is one of the most popular hounds, and is well deserving of this popularity because they are so sensible and affectionate. With the exception of the occasional bath, Bassets require little or no coat care.
