Jack Russell Terrier
The Jack Russell Terrier originated in southern England at the end of the 19th century and was used in fox hunting. One of the first owners of these confident, feisty hunters was the Reverend Jack Russell, and the name derives from this. Jack Russells are excellent ratters and can be a true working terrier as they are alert and exhuberant. They will adapt well to being a family pet and can live in either a house or apartment setting, as long as they get adequate exercise. They have a double coat to protect from inclement weather, which may be broken or smooth in feel. Jack Russell terriers are available in several color variations: white, white and black, tri-color, white and brown (or red). Fully grown, they range up to 14 inches in height and weigh in the neighborhood of 10-15 pounds.
