English Bulldog
Originally bred to fight bulls and other pit animals long ago in England, the Bulldog of today is a gentle giant . They love to interact with people and are especially careful when dealing with small children. English Bulldogs will do well with other pets as long as the other pet recognizes that they want to be the pack leader and are very possessive about their food dish. In fact, if there are other animals in the household, the Bulldog should ideally be fed separately. While the Bulldog is a fine companion in every way, they do tend to snore, snort and huff while they are sleeping. The Bulldog can be taken for short walks as a pup, but as they age, they will need less and less of this type of actiivity. They are at home in either an apartment/condo environment or in a single family home. Their coat is very short and may be any of a number of colors, but it requires little care. It is necessary to clean their facial wrinkles carefully frequently, to avoid bacteria building up in the folds. The typical age span for an English Bulldog is around 10 years. Average weight when full grown is 40-50 pounds, with the males weighing slightly more than the females. Their full grown height is in the 14 1/2 to 15 inch range (measured at the front shoulder). It is essential to NEVER leave a Bulldog in a car in warm weather to avoid respiratory distress and perhaps even death.
