Shorkie (Shih Tzu & Yorkshire Terrier)
This designer breed results from crossing a Shih Tzu and a Yorkie. The result is a happy, independent companion who may be the perfect pet for people with allergies, since they tend to be somewhat hypoallergenic. The Shorkie is playful and sweet and will get along well with other pets in the family and all members of the family group. They enjoy exercise, but do not need a large amount of it and are quite happy to play the role of lap dog as often as possible. Their coat tends to be long unless groomed in a "puppy" cut, and will require some brushing/combing daily to look its best. The size of the Shorkie can range from four to twelve pounds and generally they will be between five and nine inches. The Shorkie comes in almost any color due to the Shih Tzu component of its background. They are good watch dogs and will bark when strangers first come on the scene, but they are certainly not guard dogs!
